Feed the Need

Stop the Presses!! WTF is going on in Cuba?

The prisoners, many of whom have been held for more than three years without charge, are believed to be demanding an immediate trial or release.
Lawyers for the detainees say about 200 are refusing all food. Military officials put the number at 76.
A hunger strike in July ended when the Pentagon agreed to talk to inmates.

This is unreal, a SECOND HUNGER strike. I think everyone needs a fair day in court, but that is just me. I understand there are mitigating circumstances but they are not eating. You cannot get any information from a dead person.

Cloony is not a Crook

A Nation Terrorized By Its Own Government, One Man Dared to Tell The Truth. (Tag from IMDB)

I guess George Clooney came clean about this moive:

Actor George Clooney admitted stealing ideas and having doubts about his own acting abilities when he unveiled his new film at the Venice Film festival.

"When I did Confessions of a Dangerous Mind I sent an apology to (two film-makers) for stealing shots from them," he said.

Women do everything

One of my more favorite blogs these days is the CareerBuilder. The only problem is that they do not update all that often. When they do post, they are usually gems:

Turns out they may not return the favor. A recent study found that co-workers are less likely to reciprocate good deeds when a female co-worker helps them out

I always thought that the women controlled the situation. Guess I was wrong.

Super Whole

Wilf Continued but with a much sweeter message:

"I look forward to working with organization that we have in place there to put the most competitive team that we can on the field," Wilf said. "Of course, it's every dream to not only be competitive but to reach the Super Bowl and win the Super Bowl. I will do my best to try to reach those goals."

I would love it. Vikings Superbowl on the 20th Anniversary of the Chicago Bears. That would really get my dad going.

Red Eye Macomb

So Long Red, Thank you very much 1998. I would like to welcome the new owner of the Minnesota Vikings Zygmunt Wilf:

Shortly after being welcomed into the NFL as the new owner of the Minnesota Vikings, New Jersey real-estate developer Zygmunt Wilf pledged that the team would "be in the Minneapolis area forever."

"I'm not changing that at all," said Wilf, who leads a group that has agreed to purchase the team for $600 million from Red McCombs.

Maybe with a developer on board that new stadium could come soon?

One Hit Lowe

All is well that ends well, right?

Lowe threw a one-hit complete game to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 7-0 victory over the Cubs. The only hit was an infield single by Jerry Hairston leading off the first inning. Lowe (9-13), who held Cincinnati to one hit over eight innings on July 25, walked two and struck out seven.

Now that the Cubbies are offically out of the playoff picture this year its time for Dusty to grow up and call some of the younger guys up and let them play. The first move the Cubs need to do is make Todd Walker their captain.

Citizen Katrina

This is the first time, since entering the "sphere" that an event has captivated not only myself but the entire county. Some people, i feel, are trying to exploit the situation:

CNN wants to know how the 2005 hurricane season is affecting you. Send us your thoughts and stories, or write to try to reach loved ones. Use the links below or call in your story to "Anderson Cooper 360" at 1-866-NY-AC360....
Some of the videos, photos and audio submitted may be selected for use in CNN.com's hurricane coverage, CNN television programming or other CNN programming services about hurricanes, so by sending information you are agreeing to our terms of use.

I'm coming around to this Citizen Journalism concept more and more every day. My biggest fear of this was that the major networks were going to use the concept for comercial purposes.

Gas this

Enough is clearly enough. On the TV all news stations there have been few discussions that do not include Katrina. One item of the discussion has really need to slow down. While the world watches The Southern Gulf Coast they are cut in by New York fat cats who do nothing but complain about the gas prices. Yes, the gas prices are high but seriously folks, maybe this one is not all about you. At least you have a car to drive:

Katrina’s “immediate effect will be a bump in gas prices of maybe 20-25 cents a gallon -- although that might be mitigated if the president releases some crude oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). But the price of gas is going higher anyway,” said Stephen Leeb, president of Leeb Capital Management.

GooDestroyYouGle

The Onion mocks me and my earlier post:

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA—Executives at Google, the rapidly growing online-search company that promises to "organize the world's information," announced Monday the latest step in their expansion effort: a far-reaching plan to destroy all the information it is unable to index.

I think this would be kinda funny, hope Google knows who I am...

Jake "Day Light Come and I wanna" Cannot Go Home

Jake Delhomme, the starting quarterback for the SI projected Super Bowl Champ Carolina Panthers, discusses his feelings about his home and family:

I'm lucky. My family is lucky. It's depressing when you see footage of New Orleans. It really is, and I'm not the kind to get emotional about stuff like that. But when I saw New Orleans, just some of the aerial shots, you know those places.

Delhomme is a good person and has earned everything he has. He took his team to the superbowl a few years back and still has his feet on the ground. It will be interesting to see if this plays an sort of distraction.

OUTRAGE

I guess old Rod's staff do not trust some people:

Despite an emphasis on the theme of race, the new Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is staffed overwhelmingly by white workers--an unacceptable irony for a complex that celebrates history's Great Emancipator, the head of a minority watchdog group charged Tuesday.

Remember there is a "hiring freeze" in Illinois. Just in case you do not know what that means, I shall explain it for you. Every Job that does have a start-end date longer than one year requires the approval of the Office of the Gov. Lincoln would be ashamed.

Relief

The Chicago Triubne Co. has established a relief fund with the hope of raising $1 million:

The McCormick Tribune Foundation will match the first $1,000,000 contributed to the campaign at 50 cents on the dollar. All administrative costs will be paid by the foundation so that all funds can be distributed directly to disaster relief organizations that provide short and long-term aid to those affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Contriubte what you can, if you can. If you do not feel comfortable with that then the Red Cross is always there.

RuOILssia

The folks over at the BBC announced that Russian Oil Giant Mikhail Khodokovsky intends to run for parliment:

Jailed Russian businessman Mikhail Khodorkovsky has announced that he intends to stand for parliament. In a statement on his website, the former Yukos chief said he would contest a seat in a Moscow district, in a by-election later this year. Khodorkovsky, once Russia's wealthiest man, was sentenced to nine years in May for fraud and tax evasion.

I
I'm not going to lie, but Russia sounds a little bit like another place i know. First off you have a leader who suspended election because of terrorist and ruined opponents. Second off you have people plan on running for office in Jail (no mentions of Dan R. here please)

Drafting EMoney

A little while ago (Last year), i was quietly doing my work and I heard a loud scream.
"Petruck, I've Got IT!!" yelled Jake. I gave him the idiot eyes and asked what he was talking about. "We are going to Draft Ditka!" For the rest of the day Jake went around the office telling me that the revolution would not be television in reference to This Book. The next day a web page popped up. (No Longer exisits) Now from a different Source comes this: (Note: this is not a Rhodes School Production)

Who Are We?
We are a group of committed Republicans in Illinois who believe that Jim Edgar is our best chance of regaining the Governor's office. Together, we are volunteering our time -- encouraging Jim Edgar to run for Govenor and save Illinois from corruption and fiscal ruin!

Alrighty, I'm going to give this page a plug. Once again, I am not offically endorsing Gov. Edgar in any way. I just like to see that the Repubs are doing something productive instead of destructive.

Minor News

After watching the Dodgers portion of the 2nd inning (which is still on while i am writing this) it raises a question for us:

Is it more embarrasing to be a Cubs fan or a Royals fan?

Petruck, George Petruck

Wanna see your name in print Rhodes has some interesting information. I wonder if Parrillo would use his real name or the other name?

Ice the Cake

Mark Cuban (owner of the Dallas Mavericks) is throughing a huge endorsement to the people at Icerocket:

I first got involved with Icerocket.com because the way I searched for data wasn’t and isn’t supported by Google, Yahoo or the other traditional search engines.

Not too shabby coming from a gigantic public voice. Now if only some people would pay me what he gets paid to do his job

Razorberry

Motorola could not stand back and let Research In Motion (RIM) have all the fun with the PDA/EMail/Phone industry. But now steps in Motorola:

The new Q from Motorola. Smart, powerful, and devastatingly good-looking, the Moto Q is the ultimate power player. The world's thinnest, lightest QWERTY phone is a seamless fusion of QWERTY and phone - delivering a fully-loaded package of email, voice, and entertainment in one amazingly rich but thin device.

I love my Blackberry but it is rather large. It will be interesting to see where RIM goes from here. For a while it was either Blackberry or TRIO now that "Hello Moto" is entering the game, it will be interesting to see where the market goes from here.

Middle Fingers work also

An older technology finally comes to the new age. Biometrics is coming alive inpart thanks to IBM but other companies seem to be grasping the idea for their uses...

Atmel introduced the FingerGear, a flash memory drive that has a fingerprint sensor to protect the stored data. Swiping your finger across the sensor authenticates you as an authorized user and permits access to the sensitive information stored on the FingerGear.

I believe that this is a great idea. The only problem I see with this is complatency. Eventually every piece of electronics which stores data of any type will have this technology. When ever there is a new market created there is always a black market created with it. People will be looking for ways to hack and crack them and even rip off the technology. Most people will be so happy that their computer and data are perfectly safe that other areas will slip. Please, continue to use caution anywhere on the web.

Katrina

I would just like to send my thoughts and prayers to the victims of this Natural Disaster. I hope and pray for everyone’s safe journeys regardless of where that might be.

Google Runs my Life

I can safely say that is starting to slowly control my life. Last night I downloades a program form Google named Google Earth. With the addition of that program, I offically have Google Talk, Google Desktop Search, and Google Earth on my machine. The site i visit the most is Google. I am very impressed with all they do and glad that somebody other than Microsoft came up with these. I know that google talk is no AIM but AIM is for people in school. My parents do not use AIM but i am sure that they would use Google talk in a heart beat.

Loras College

Today is the First day of Classes here at Loras College. I have a pretty sweet schedual again. For example, I've got one class today...

L.POL-121-02 Issues in Global Politics 3.00 MWF 12:00PM-12:50PM HOFF 312 Class meets from Aug 29 - Dec 15

That Dec 15th end date seems so far away but hopefully it will be just long enough.
