The collective funk that resulted in eight straight losses, sloppy play and ineffective hitting by the Chicago Cubs disappeared on Thursday. Maybe the pregame rain washed it away. Maybe it was the return of good-luck charm Tom Hellman as bat boy. For the first time in more than a week, the Cubs could fly the "W" flag on top of the Wrigley Field scoreboard.
